Artist's Description

Here in Western Massachusetts, the columbine begin to bloom in early to mid May, although that seems to be much harder to predict these days. This Spring of 2013 seems to be more typical than it has been for the last few years. This past Fall and Winter were also more 'normal' than in recent years, but with less precipitation than usual.

If this makes gardening hard to predict, just imagine how this impacts the farmers. In Western Mass. recent years have brought several reduced or ruined crops for various reasons, from hard frosts that are too early or too late, too wet or too dry, from hurricanes and tornados to balmy winter days followed by blizzard conditions. Of course this
affects us with unpredictable (and usually higher) prices for food, fuel and many
other basic necessities such as wool or cotton or any other naturally grown products
that we use.

I don't think we can reverse these changes and that, with proper planning, we need
to adapt and to...

About Michael Friedman

Michael Friedman

Only in the last few years, but now in the digital age, have I renewed my passion for the medium. As you will see, my main interest is in nature and landscape work, but I also have experience in interior and exterior architecture as well as studio and industrial applications.
